MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE WILL BE AT JORENE’S
Today is Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday—it is an important day in this most sacred and holy week. We think on Jesus’ last week before he was crucified and resurrected. I grew up in the Baptist Church and we did not celebrate the church calendar—Advent, Lent, Holy Week—we went right to Easter. But we do a disservice to the story if we do not walk with Jesus
through this week called Holy. When I was first in a church that observed Holy Week I thought it odd that this was called “Monday Thursday” which is what I heard people saying. Maundy-M-A-U-N-D-Y comes from the Latin mandatum which is a command, order, mandate. It was named this because of what Jesus says to his disciples after washing their feet at the Last Supper—a new command I give you, that you love one another.” Jesus showed his love for the disciples by washing their feet and sharing the bread and the wine with them.
Come join us tonight as we wash each other’s feet and share the bread and the wine around the table which reminds us of the love of Jesus.
